Coaches Code of Ethics

The mature coach maintains emotional control at all times and avoids conflict with umpires, parents, or players. They uphold the dignity of the coaching profession and ensure the safety of all athletes from potential physical, mental, and emotional harm.

Marucci Prospects Midwest Coaches are committed to the following:

  • Abiding by the Organization's Zero Tolerance Policy regarding abuse, harassment, discrimination, and any behavior that jeopardizes the safety, dignity, or well-being of athletes, families, staff, or fellow coaches.

  • Completing 360 Certification.

  • Striving to develop leadership, initiative, and sound judgment in every athlete.

  • Respecting the individual integrity and personality of each player.

  • Promoting the highest standards of conduct and academic achievement.

  • Modeling strong moral character, ethical behavior, and positive leadership at all times.

  • Encouraging mutual respect among coaches, including those on opposing teams.

  • Abiding by the rules of the game, both in letter and in spirit.

  • Respecting the integrity and judgment of umpires.

  • Displaying modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.

  • Prioritizing player health and well-being over the desire to win, recognizing that long-term development is more important than short-term outcomes.

  • Strictly adhering to pitch count rules and arm care protocols to protect players’ short- and long-term health.

  • Leading by example, including refraining from unethical behavior with umpires, opposing coaches, parents, or players.

  • Arriving early to practices and games to ensure proper setup and preparation. Players should never wait on a coach to begin instruction or provide equipment.

  • Making good-faith decisions regarding roles, positions, lineups, and playing time based on an honest evaluation of effort, ability, teamwork, preparedness, execution, and alignment with the Prospects philosophy.

COACHING/ADVISING PERSONNEL CONDUCT

Coaches hold a unique position of respect and influence in the lives of young athletes. With this privilege comes great responsibility. A Prospects coach must always act in a way that leaves players better as athletes and as individuals. Winning is never more important than instilling strong character, leadership, and lifelong values.
